St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots suffered their eighth consecutive loss in the CPL 2024 when Trinbago Knight Riders completed a record chase of their 193, with Nicholas Pooran quicker and more punishing 93* surpassing Andre Fletcher's 61-ball 93.
Kyle Mayers, who batted 60 at a 200 strike rate during a 99-run stand, helped Fletcher. With over a half remaining, TKR completed the chase behind Pooran's 34-ball 64, which had established the foundation from the start.
The Knight Riders elected to field first on a favorable batting track, and Akeal Hosein made a breakthrough by dismissing Lewis on the second ball in just five balls.
But that sent Mayers on, and he did not lose any time getting going, smashing the spinner for 12 runs in the first three balls he faced from Hosein, including the first four and six of the innings.
In his first overs, Jayden Seales gave away three boundaries, and Andre Russell was given a dose of his own medicine when Fletcher and Mayers each hit a six. Nevertheless, Dwayne Bravo received the harshest penalty of the powerplay when Mayers went 4,6,4,4 to lead the club to 63/1 after that phase.
Chris Jordan put the clamps on in a frugal middle-overs performance, taking two fine wickets and even forcing the big-hitting Mayers out to end the partnership before it reached 100. Before being bowled out by Seales in a fleeting appearance, Rilee Rossouw hit as many as four boundaries to score an 11-ball 20.
After that, Fletcher changed tactics, leaving both Waqar Salamkheil and an otherwise economical Jordan unbeaten, enabling SNP to score 61 runs in the next six overs to finish with a commanding 193 runs.
Despite the beating he suffered in his final over, Jordan was the best bowler with a 2-29, while Fletcher amassed a top-scoring effort with four fours and six boundaries.
Roy rediscovered his rhythm and scored most of the runs in the opening 43-run stand, with Keacy Carty following a quiet opening couple of overs to start the chase. When Pooran came to bat in the sixth over, he stormed to 12 off the successive five balls, helping TKR finish the powerplay at 55/1.
In the middle phase, they continued to press the attack as a team, and the opener soon raced to a 26-ball fifty. TKR was 100/1 at the halfway point. Tabraiz Shami broke the threatening stand by trapping the Englishman on an under-edge after he had taken some of the punishment in his first two wickets. Roy reviewed it, but it didn't help. Following that, in the five-over phase, SNP battled back, giving up just thirty runs and getting rid of the dangerous Tim David for a low price.
Pooran amassed a 32-ball fifty with the help of a couple of reprieves, but TKR still required 48 runs from the final four overs. Pooran decided to assume leadership and launched an onslaught against Jeremiah Louis, who had only scored 26 in his previous three games.
It was an expensive 21-run over as Pooran regained control for his side with three maximums in the over. Anrich Anrich Nortje was the next man in the firing line, getting hammered for 4, 6, 6, and 18 in his final over.
